MyWordwire is an English reading app. This policy explains what MyWordwire stores, why, and how to remove it. MyWordwire is operated by Volkan Öztoklu, based in Türkiye, who is responsible for this data and can be reached at support@mywordwire.com.

Reading without an account

You can read without signing in. Stories and atlas articles are bundled with the app. Without an account, local learning data stays on the device. Network requests to our API and external image services can expose connection information such as your IP address to those services. Optional usage measurement is explained below.

Optional notifications

If you enable phone notifications, we store your chosen categories, days and local time, your device push token, and its last activity time. Tokens are linked to a signed-in session and removed when that session is deleted; after login expires, only the optional, limited return reminders may still be sent. Notification delivery and read history are retained for 90 days, and daily-word completion used to suppress reminders for up to eight days. Expo Push Service, Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging deliver the notification title, body and destination to your device. You can turn off categories or all phone notifications in Notification settings. Chapter and World updates are also stored on your device and cleared at sign-out.

Optional usage measurement

Usage measurement is off until you enable it in Profile → Your data & privacy. With your choice, MyWordwire sends reading activity, screen and button events, practice results and diagnostic error reports to its server with a random installation identifier. This is installation-scoped data, not a claim that it is legally anonymous. We do not attach your account ID, name, email address or advertising ID. Search queries and words you look up are not measurement events. Diagnostic messages may contain technical error details; the server removes email addresses and common credential patterns.

Measurement events have a 180-day retention period. Scheduled cleanup removes expired records independently of app use. Turning measurement off stops new events and requests deletion of previous events. If a request fails, the device keeps the identifier needed to retry; reconnect and open the app to allow the retry. A hash of a deleted identifier is retained for up to 180 days to reject delayed uploads, then expires. Enabling measurement again creates a new identifier. Infrastructure security logs are separate from usage measurement.

If you create an account

• Account: your email address and name, plus the Google or Apple account identifier if you sign in with one. If you use a password, only a salted hash is stored.
• Learning record: your reading level, native language, interests, placement test answers and result, the words and sentences you save (with the sentence they came from), the words you look up while reading (with the sentence and story they were in, kept for 30 days so Today's Words can bring back ones you did not save), your quiz and review answers, reading progress and streak activity.
• Why: these records are needed to choose texts at your level, schedule vocabulary reviews and show your progress. MyWordwire has no advertising, does not build advertising profiles and does not sell or share your data for marketing.

Translations

When you ask for a translation, the word or sentence is sent to Google Cloud Translation. Your account is not sent with it. Results are cached without any link to you, so the same sentence is not translated twice.

Service providers

• Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Belgium region) runs the server.
• Supabase (PostgreSQL database, EU West / Ireland region) stores data.
• Google Cloud Translation translates text on request.
• Google and Apple handle sign-in when you choose them.
• Unsplash's image network serves some article photos.
• Cloudflare R2 stores audio files.

These services have different roles and terms. Hosting and database services support our operations; sign-in and image services may also process connection or account information under their own policies. Data can be processed outside Türkiye, including in the European Union and the United States, under each provider's own data processing and transfer terms. Choosing a European server region does not by itself remove the transfer. To ask which provider handles your data, contact us.

Retention and deletion

Account data is kept until you delete your account. You can delete it in the app under Profile → Delete account, or request deletion without reinstalling the app on the account deletion page. In-app deletion requires confirmation with your sign-in provider or password, then removes the active account, learning record and sessions. Web requests require identity verification and a response from the operator; they are not automatic deletion. Sign-in sessions expire after 7 days. Usage events follow the 180-day retention and deletion process above. Operational backups of the application database are stored in a restricted Google Cloud Storage bucket in europe-west1. Active backup objects have a 7-day deletion lifecycle, followed by a 7-day soft-delete period; lifecycle processing is asynchronous, so these settings are not an exact deletion deadline. Backups are used for recovery, and deletion requests must be reconciled before restored data is put back into service. Infrastructure logs follow the configured provider retention settings. We will explain applicable backup expiry and any legally required retention in response to a deletion request.

Your rights

You can export your saved vocabulary in the app. Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR or Türkiye's KVKK, you may also have the right to request access, correction or deletion, and to object. To make a request, contact support@mywordwire.com. You may also complain to your data protection authority.

Children

MyWordwire is intended for readers aged 13 and older. Before first use, the app asks for an age range (not a date of birth) and keeps it on your device. It does not verify age. If you choose under 13, the app stays closed on that device; if this was a mistake, contact us. Readers aged 13–17 can use the free features without a separate parent step; optional usage measurement stays off for them and we do not send them marketing. Purchases are handled by Apple or Google and need the consent of a parent or legal representative, who can use the store's family and purchase approval controls. A parent or legal representative may contact us about a young reader's account; we verify the request in proportion to what is asked and keep the young reader's interests in mind. You can move to a younger age range at any time under Privacy → Review my age range.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new effective date.
